In the heart of Vadodara, a city known for its artistic heritage, Gallery White stands as a space for contemporary expression. Founded in 2018 by Vinit Nair, the gallery emerged from a deep connection with the art community and a desire to create a platform for artists. What began as a collector’s passion has grown into a place that brings artists and audiences together.
The Beginning of Gallery White
Vinit Nair’s journey into art started as a collector. Engaging with Vadodara’s art scene, he built strong relationships with artists and understood their challenges. He saw the need for a gallery that could connect artists with collectors, curators, and enthusiasts. This led to the establishment of Gallery White.
With experience in the industry, Nair set out to create a space that balanced creativity and commerce. His goal was to provide artists with recognition and financial support while building a meaningful connection with art lovers.
Selecting the Artists
Gallery White carefully selects the artists it represents. The team visits studios, gaining insight into each artist’s practice and ensuring their work aligns with the gallery’s vision.
As a commercial gallery, it also considers market relevance. Each artist undergoes a thorough selection process to ensure their work adds value to contemporary art while appealing to collectors.
Exhibition Calendar
Since its inception, Gallery White has presented exhibitions that explore diverse narratives across painting, sculpture, photography, and new media. The gallery’s annual programming runs from September to April, with solo and group exhibitions.
Currently, it is hosting Mona and Myself, a solo exhibition by Dayanita Singh, running from March 6 to April 28, 2025. The exhibition presents a personal and evocative photographic narrative on memory, identity, and time. After this, the gallery will showcase a solo project by artist Sonatina Mendes later in the year.
Looking Ahead
Gallery White plans to expand its reach over the next five years by participating in international art fairs and collaborating with galleries in India and abroad.
Collaboration is key to growth, allowing greater exposure for artists and introducing international works to Indian audiences. The gallery also aims to support artist development through residencies, workshops, and mentorship programs, encouraging new and experimental work.
The Impact of Gallery White
In a short time, Gallery White has established itself as a key contemporary art space in Vadodara. Beyond exhibitions, it has built a community of artists, collectors, and art lovers who engage in meaningful discussions about art.
For Vinit Nair, Gallery White is more than a business—it is a reflection of his passion for art and the people who create it. His journey from collector to gallerist highlights the importance of vision and dedication.
As the gallery moves forward, it remains committed to supporting creativity, connecting artists with audiences, and contributing to the evolving art landscape.
